Why Don’t Companies Fire Micro-Managers?

Do you have any opinion on why companies don’t reprimand micro-managers? As a matter of fact they seem to get promoted. Also, do you know how to filter for this type of behavior to in candidates considered for promotion?

Finally, why is it that HR don’t usually filter for this behavior?

So, why don’t companies fire micro-managers?

  1. There's one good reason in Europe why a lot of micro-managers don't get fired: it's often illegal. A micro-manager will usually get the specified job done, perhaps nothing more, perhaps nothing less. Considering employment law in most European countries the micro-manager is probably well aware that they can't be fired unless their employer wants to end up in court, and likely lose. Unfortunate but true.

  2. Hmmm.. Good points all around. I do believe that micro-managers serve a function, though. But too much can really get annoying.

  3. Probably for the same reason they don't fire arrogant,self-obsorbed, little snots that spend their time complaining about their managers. Unfortunate but true.
