I know several people during this election cycle and the last who said they were told at a staff meeting to vote for a certain party.

It wasn’t a lobbying firm, it was a company that paid for lobbying. Lots and lots of companies have paid lobbyists or are members of coalitions that fund lobbyists.

If you work for a lobbying firm, I’m guessing you know up front what issues for which they lobby, and therefore, probably what candidate they support. I would think if one did not agree with those issues or support those candidates (or that party), one wouldn’t choose to work there. I guess I don’t really see this situation as one where an employer is pushing its political opinions on its employees.

I’ve worked for a company that spent millions in lobbying. While they never asked you to vote for any particular candidate, if you were above a certain level you were “strongly encouraged” to donate to their PAC. Which supported candidates that they felt were best for the company.

Same thing, really. But, far more classy.
