I agree with pre-planning. Though most people don’t want to think about it, it can save family and friends a lot of money and worry. My dad had arranged to be cremated, which ended up being wise since he passed on March 17 this year and his church wouldn’t do a funeral Mass during Easter. So we had to wait almost a month for the actual funeral.

A friend did so (he had two years after the diagnosis). And it was very much a wake, not a funeral. We realized (those who didn’t know already) that most of us wouldn’t have even known each other were it not for him.

People should plan their own funeral arrangements as part of the circle of life. Don’t leave the arrangements for those left behind while dealing with the grief of losing their loved one. Plus it eliminates their being faced with choices that have financial consequences. (No one should have to go into debt for a funeral/burial). If there’s a service and gathering it should be a remembrance composed of joy between the grief. No one style is inappropriate. May you remember your friend for what they brought to your life and live each day as full as possible.
