I recognize the corporate culture that might have produced this hiring manager. My company had the reputation of hiring the very best candidates from the very best schools and as a result there really were some bright people working there. Unfortunately, the culture from the top down excused bad behavior and rough interpersonal edges as long as you were the smartest one in the room. It was a very aggressive culture, that I mentally described as the "assholeocracy" before I inevitably left. I had the priveledge of working for a really smart boss, but boy was he a jerk to me! I still think a lot about the things he taught me, both intentionally and unintentionally. I learned a lot about good and bad management from him.
