Salesforce’s Plan to Get Employees Back into the Office. The Right Call or Emotional Manipulation?

In the absense of mandates, Salesforce is hoping a more charitable option will prod employees to come back to the office.

Every time an employee comes into the office between June 12 and 23, the tech giant will give $10 per employee to a local charity. The goal is $1 million.

Giving to charity is great, and I support companies’ doing so. Getting employees involved in fundraising can be a great team-building exercise and good for those around you. And that seems like the stated goal.

“Giving back is deeply embedded in everything we do, and we’re proud to introduce Connect for Good to encourage employees to help raise $1 million for local nonprofits,” Annie Vincent, director of corporate communications at Salesforce, said in a statement to The Washington Post.

But this is not the way to fundraise, and it comes across as very manipulative.
