Maybe you have the fantasy of being like Mr. Scrooge before the ghosts visited, but if you’re like most people, you’d actually like to have your employees like you. Not in terms of being your best friend, but think  highly of you. Do you really want to be the cause of people developing an inappropriate swearing habit around their children? No, no you don’t

So, if you’re the boss, and you want to be a good one, you’ll need to develop honesty as a characteristic. Honesty? You mean like paying your taxes correctly? Yes, but there’s so much  more.

  1. I have a boss that just plain lies, period. She has ten direct reports and she will often tell us different things individually, for example, about reasons for [new policy]. She will tell person A that it is because of person B, and will tell person C that it is because of person A. Does she think we never talk to each other and compare information?
